The novel, based on her true memoir, written at age 84, tells of a life of poverty and desperation. Born into an itinerant family that moved more than forty times before Anna reached the age of fourteen. She was sickly, constantly undernourished and suffering from rickets. Her mother was seldom home and was arrested for prostitution and larceny. Her father was an accomplished musician who passed his talents onto Anna and her siblings. Anna was despised by her mother and mistreated by her father during his alcoholic bouts. She found a belief in God and Jesus Christ at an early age. Despite her lack of education, her pastor recommended her for bible college where she met her husband, George. Together they devoted their lives to helping others.

The author met Anna, who was then ninety-six, during a visit to a Michigan convalescent center where his sister-in-law has been a resident for twelve years.  The story parallels Anna’s memoir and is told in the voice of the author’s brother who cared for Anna as well as his wife in Anna’s waning years. Anna’s story is inspirational. The poignant ending completes her amazing life at 104 years old.
